This gathering has already happened. It is kept here as a record.

Chai Chat is an interactive gathering where we explore current social concerns and other issues that affect our spiritual and communal cultivation.

We invite you to read ahead of time, join us with your favourite tea or coffee, and engage in critical and constructive conversation.

On Monday November 23rd Amirah Nelson will lead a discussion based on pages 2-26 of the article “Framework for Isolation in
Adults Over 50
”.

This topic is timely considering that the COVID-19 Crisis has accentuated and broadened the problem of social isolation in older adults.

Join us to discuss:

  • the research presented in the article to help us better identify people who are at risk for social isolation and why

  • how Islam speaks about elders

  • how religiously oriented communities can creatively address some of the issues around social isolation at the interpersonal level

  • what we can do to address the infrastructural issues that contribute to some of those risks
